Revival of Mukerian-Talwara Railway Line Set to Boost Regional Connectivity and Economic Growth

The Mukerian-Talwara railway line, approximately 28 kilometers in length, is a significant infrastructure project aimed at enhancing connectivity between Mukerian in Punjab and Talwara in Himachal Pradesh. This line is part of the broader Nangal Dam-Talwara New Broad Gauge Line project, which spans 84 kilometers and is expected to be completed by December 31, 2025.

Scope: The project involves the construction of a new broad-gauge railway line connecting Mukerian to Talwara, with the objective of reviving the rail route that had been inactive for approximately 35 years.

 

Stations: The line will feature state-of-the-art railway stations at Mukerian, Patiala, Hajipur, and Talwara.

 

Mukerian-Talwara railway line Funding: The central government has allocated funds amounting to ₹411 crore for this project.

 

Environmental Considerations:

 

The project requires the diversion of 132.21537 hectares of forest land in favor of Northern Railway for the construction of the railway line from Mukerian to Talwara.
